  • Tonlé Sap Lake: provides income for 40% of Cambodia's population. In the rainy season, the lake swells from 3,000 sq km to 7,500 sq km, swells from 2.2m (7.2 feet) depth to over 10m (33 feet). September 2000 floods lake swelled to 20,000 sq km.
  • Life expectancy 51.6 years (Thailand 69, Vietnam 64, Germany 76, Japan 79)
  • 50% of population is under 15
  • Timber is over half of exports (much of it illegal)
  • Average income US$300 per year
  • Doctors: Cambodia 1/16000 people (Thailand 1/4000, Vietnam 1/6000, Germany 1/333)
